FAQ

 Booking

Why can’t I choose a dentist or hygienist for my initial visit?

In order to make your visit super prompt and efficient, we try to keep our dentists’ and hygienists’ schedules open until close to your appointment date. Our clinical team is amazing, and we’re confident you’ll love whomever you’re paired with. But if there’s a specific dentist or hygienist you want to see, or if you’ve been referred to someone in particular, just give us a call at (212) 406-3686 and we’ll make sure it happens. After that initial appointment, you’ll always see the same dentist for future visits, unless you want to make a change.

How will I know which dentist or hygienist I’ll be seeing?

Before your visit, we’ll give you a call to say hi and answer any questions you may have. We’ll also tell you a bit about the dentist you’re going to see. If there’s someone in particular you’re hoping to be seen by, feel free to call us at (212) 406-3686.

What if I want to reschedule with a different dentist or hygienist than the one I've been paired with?

Totally fine! Just give us a call at (212) 686-3686.

How do I reschedule or cancel my appointment?

Call us at (888) 818-3686. Just make sure to do so more than 48 hours before your appointment time. If you cancel or reschedule less than 48 hours in advance, we’ll have to charge you a $50 fee. If you don’t make it at all, we’ll have to charge you a $100 fee. This is because we reserved that time specifically for you, and our appointments are in high demand.

How experienced are your dentists?

Our dentists are graduates of respected dental schools, and have all trained in highly-rated residency programs. All of our dentists take continuing education courses in order to stay current with all of the latest techniques and research. They’re led by our Clinical Director, Dr. Marc Schlenoff, a former Program Director at the Columbia University College of Dental Medicine.

What services do you offer?

We offer a full range of preventative, restorative, and cosmetic dental services. For preventative and restorative care, we offer routine checkups, implants, and everything in between. For cosmetic care, we’ll help you redesign your smile with whitening and veneers. Read more about our services.

What if I need something not listed, such as a filling, a crown, or an implant?

If the specific service you need isn’t listed, call us at (212) 406-3686. Chances are we do it. Our experienced dentists offer a full range of preventative, restorative, and cosmetic care.

How do I book a follow-up visit?

At the end of your first visit, we’ll get you scheduled for your next visit before you leave. Or if you need more time to figure out your schedule, just give us a call afterward at (212) 686-3686 and we’ll find you a time.

Do you do pediatric dentistry?

We currently do not see children under 13, but we are more than happy to recommend pediatric dentists. Just give us a call at (212) 686-3686.

What if I want a second opinion?

If another dentist has recommended that you get a procedure and you want a second opinion, we are more than happy to provide one. Just give us a call at (212) 406-3686. If you’re a Tend patient and your dentist recommends a procedure, you’re more than welcome to seek a second opinion. We provide in-house second opinions from other Tend dentists, or we can provide you with our proposed treatment plan to take to another dentist.

Why do you require credit card for booking?

We require a credit card for booking because it helps ensure the safest possible visit. No form of payment needs to exchange hands in the studio, which is safer for you and our team. If you’re covered by insurance, we still require your credit card information when you book just in case you need a procedure in the future. If your visit is fully covered, we will not charge you. And if you do have a payment, we’ll only charge you after you’re seen.

 Your Visit

Is visiting Tend safe?

The safety of our members and our team is our top priority. Read about the steps we’re taking here.

Do appointments really start on time?

We make a superhuman effort to start every visit on time. If you do have to wait, you probably won’t even have time to finish the Beyoncé song in your headphones. Our average wait time is 3 minutes.

What if I miss my appointment?

Our appointments are in high demand and we reserve our dentists and hygienists’ time just for you. So if you cancel or reschedule your visit with less than 48 hours notice, we’ll have to charge you a $50 fee. If you don’t make it at all, we’ll have to charge you a $100 fee.

How long do appointments take?

We schedule our appointments with enough time to give you thorough care while also making sure you’re completely comfortable and safe. We know how busy you are, and we won’t keep you a minute longer than necessary. An exam takes about 80 minutes. A whitening treatment takes about 70 minutes. And consults take about 30 minutes.

When should I arrive for my appointment?

You should arrive for your appointment right when it’s scheduled to begin. Our average wait time is 3 minutes.

 Studio

What is a studio?

Studio is the word we use instead of “clinic” or “practice.” Our studios are modern, beautiful spaces where our appointments take place. Why the new word? To reframe your expectations about what going to the dentist can be. To us, “studio” feels healthy, proactive, and comfortable, which reflects what we want your visit to feel like.

Where are you located?

Our studios are conveniently located just a floss spool or two from major subway lines. See where we are.

Will you be expanding?

Yes! Subscribe to our newsletter to be the first to hear about new studio openings.

 Whitening

What does Tend use for in-studio teeth whitening?

We use an innovative, clinically proven whitening product called Opalescence Boost, which yields fast, visible results. The original, patented formula contains PF (potassium nitrate and fluoride).

Why should I trust Tend to do my teeth whitening?

Your dentist will set your tooth shade with you and monitor you for comfort and sensitivity. We use Opalescence Boost, a patented whitening treatment that will brighten your smile, guaranteed.

How much does teeth whitening cost?

One Opalescence Boost whitening session costs $495.

How long does teeth whitening last?

It’s hard to predict exactly how long whitening will keep your smile brighter, as much of this is up to you. Tobacco products, red wine, coffee, and tea can all stain your teeth again. Whitening can last for many months, even a year or more.

Does teeth whitening hurt?

Whitening treatment can cause some mild temporary sensitivity, but we reduce or even eliminate it in three ways. First, our whitening gel has a desensitizing ingredient in it (potassium nitrate). Second, our system requires less exposure time than many other treatments. Third, we’ll provide you with a special toothpaste to use before and after your treatment that’s very effective in reducing sensitivity.

Is teeth whitening safe?

Teeth whitening is completely safe. Dentists have been successfully whitening smiles for decades, and the procedure is very predictable. Although there is a chance of sensitivity for a short time afterward, it will not damage your teeth in any way, and the mild discomfort will only last a day or two.
